TITANIUM
There are different types or grades of titanium. For jewellery we use grade 1 (pure titanium), easy to use for crimping and colouring. Its strong point is its lightness, with a weight of only 4.51 gr per cm3. This means it is possible to make large parts without excessive weight. We can obtain excellent colorations subject to meticulous polishing. The colours range from light blue, dark blue and purple, through yellow and pink.
ZIRCONIUM
With a specific gravity of 6.52gr / cm3, zirconium is a little heavier than titanium but equally resistant. It is perfectly possible to colour it light or dark blue, pink,, purple or yellow. Like titanium, the colour may fade if the piece is in contact with other materials. However its specificity also makes it possible to blacken provided that the polishing is mirror smooth. However, if the metal is frosted (matt), the colour will rather be an anthracite grey. This type of staining is permanant and scratchproof
ALUMINIUM & MAGNESIUM
We recently tested castings using these two metals. Their colours, lighter than that of traditional metals, give a more sparkling aspect. Their weights, 2.69 gr per cm3 (aluminium) and 1.73 g per cm3 (magnesium), create a new opportunity to make many different components whether for jewellery or for watchmaking.
